My Studio and Me

My plan for this blog is to have somewhere to share my sewing/quilting adventures. I hope that by sharing my love of quilting, it will inspire others to want to give it a try, even if they have never sewed before.  How can you say you can't if you have never tried?

I am a stay at home mom of two boys who are now in school full time.  This gives me a lot of time to spend sewing.  I still have all the other normal mommy duties to take care of to but those don't take that much time if I stay on top of them.

I live in the middle of Michigan with my husband, two boys (9 & 7) and our two red dogs Fern & Mister.

I have been quilting for about 9 years, I started with just a few applique / stitchery wall hangings for gifts.  Only about 4 years ago i made my first big quilt and fell in love with modern quilting and the fresh perspective on quilting that goes along with it.  I taught myself to quilt and am always learning new things.   I have even taught my boys to sew and they have managed to finish a patchwork pillow each.

We currently live in a very small house that does not allow for me to have a dedicated sewing space in the house.  We do on the other hand have a large pole barn with extra space.  So last year we added a sewing studio, well it is more of a cave inside the pole pole barn (since it lacks windows) except the window that is in the door. It is my space and I have a wall of shelves on one side for my stash and on the opposite wall I have a design wall that is 16 feet wide by 8 feet high.  Love it!

Last year I did my first commission quilt (actually got paid), I was so excited!  I did a hand stitched square for the back with the baby's name and some embroidery flowers. I really love how it all turned out. I wish I would of took a picture of the little name plate that I made for the back.

I also gave a little extra small travel blanket with ribbon tags along the edge. The back is some nice and cuddly fleece that I picked up at Joann Fabric.

I hope that this year I will be able to pick up a few commission quilts.  It helps pay for the fabric addiction.

Cheers,

Abby
