The Year

Happy Monday!

Today was our first snow day from school for the year, so not much sewing will happen till after dinner tonight :(  But I did take the kids sledding and they got to play with there friends so all is well.

I set myself a goal not to buy fabric and work from my stash (as much as possible) at least for part of the year.  I hate feeling like a hoarder but I love finding a project I want to do and being able to pull all the fabric to complete it from my shelves.   A well stocked stash just feels so liberating to me and inspirational.  Well that is what I tell myself at least.

I have joined a Skill Builder BOM that is hosted and designed by Alyssa Lichner with Pile O' Fabric.  The Skill Builder BOM includes two blocks a month and is taught as a quilt as you go.  I just finished up my blocks last week and Alyssa will be giving us lessons on how to quilt the blocks with Free Motion Quilting.  This BOM will be completely done from my stash.  For the back of the quilt I am using a vintage sheet.   Can't wait to see how it all comes together over the year.

Second up I am signed up for Lucky Stars BOM that is designed by Elizabeth Dackson over by Don't Call me Betsy.  This is a paper piece BOM and I am loving it!  I have completed the December practice blocks and January blocks and can't wait for the next month.  Each month you are giving 2 paper piece patterns for a new star, both 6" or 12" finished blocks.  I am going to do both sizes and plan on having a finished quilt with a mix of sizes.  Like the Skill Builder BOM I have managed to pull all the fabric I need from my stash, except I will more then likely will have to order some more Kona Ash mid year to be able to finish off the blocks.

I am also doing Dancing Stars Quilt-A-Long hosted by Amy Ellis at Amy's Creative Side.  This is a paper piece quilt.  I am using my scrap bins for this project, as the pattern is perfect for small bits of fabric.  The background will be a mix of dark navy blues to help the stars stand out.  I only managed to complete 5 blocks this month but hope to get more done next month. Sorry this picture is not overly great it is another gray day here in Michigan.

It is nice to have some long term projects to work on over the year.  I leave them hanging on my design wall to be able to look at and work on the layout as I go.  I will be sharing my progress with these each month.

Thanks for stopping by.

Cheers,
Abby
