Starburst Quilt Finished

So excited I finished up my Starburst Quilt for Happy Quilting's Sew Along.   I did Free Motion Quilting on this one, my first of this size (40"x40").  It was trying at times to say the least.  I am using my Janome 760 Gem to FMQ as my Janome MC5700 does not like to FMQ.  So space to move the quilt is very, very limited. But I am so happy that I have actually finished a top instead of adding to my growing pile.  Even have it hanging up in my bedroom, all in the same month, must be a miracle.

Feb 2013 - Starburst Quilt

Here is a close up of my free motion quilting. Sorry close ups are not the greatest, there is not great light outside today.

In the center i just did a random looping and for the background area around the center star I did some clam shells (I think that is what it is called).  I should of done the quilting bigger and it would not of been so daunting but once it is done it is done, just have to roll with it.  The grey with white dots I did pebbles.  The blue herringbone fabric I some random back and forth.  The final background area I did the same random looping as the center.

Thanks for stopping by.

Cheers,
Abby

  1. I love how simple yet totally beautiful this is! I never would have thought to do just one giant block - but this is really great, it looks very sophisticated :)

  2. Hi Abby, Just found your blog while surfing for Michael Miller fabrics and just had to say how much I love your quilt. Your choice of fabrics, and the beautiful large scale print in the middle is perfect; and the Free Motion Quilting is beautifully done. It's absolutely gorgeous :)
