Retro Rubies QAL Finished

I am so excited today.  I have finally finished my Retro Rubies quilt.  I am so glad that Alyssa at Pile O' Fabric extended the deadline.  There was no way I was going to be done on the 24th of June.   This quilt is a gift for my mom for her birthday which happens to have been on the 25th of June, I really hoped to have given it to her on her birthday but it just did not workout that way.  The finished quilt measures 84 x 92.

I might of went a bit crazy with the quilting but I like how it has turned out.

I used a selection of Vintage Sheets and Kona Solids for this quilt.  I have to use my small machine to free motion quilt (FMQ) so I decided to construct this as a quilt as you go.  I sort of used this method as a guide for assembly except for two changes. I folded my seams to the side and cut some of the batting away so it was not so bulky.  I also used wash away 1/4" tape to hold my backing fabric in place and then turned it over and filled in the joint space with FMQ stitching to hold it all in place.

Here is a picture of the back.

Of course I did not have enough of the same fabric to do the back of each rectangle the same but I think the striped fabric works well with the flowers.

Thank you for stopping by.

  1. How fascinating that you did quilt as you go. Never even thought of that and might choose to do it whenever I actually finish my Retro Rubies blocks -- still sewing curves! Your quilt looks awesome and I bet your Mom loves it!

  2. This is super pretty! I love the colors!

  3. This is beautiful I bet the vintage sheets are so soft and cozy!
