End of summer and I actually got to sew

Wow I have not blogged in 10 days which means I have not been in my sewing room. Drat!  I really miss sewing but with our Chicago trip, playing referee so the boys don't kill each other, preparing to send the boys off to school in one week and trying to get things done around the house before the snow starts to fly here in Michigan. The leaves are already starting to change, so sad.  I do love autumn but I hate what follows.

I did manage to do a bit of Free Motion Quilting to finished up my practice block that I made for the Retro Rubies quilt-a-long, blogged about here originally.  Sorry for the darkish pictures we really need better lighting in our house.

I echoed the petals and did some small pebbles in the middle to make it look more like a flower center.  For the boarder I a meander with loopy leaves, (does that make sense).
Here is a close up of the quilting on the petals it is hard to see any quilting on the above picture.  I quilting a heart on the petal at the point in the center of the quilt and then echoed the heart top shape for the rest of the petal.

The finished size is 19 x 25.

I also started FMQ on my Star Surround Quilt but I had an accident with the seam ripper so I have to make some repairs before I can show you my quilting.  So hopefully in the next week I can get to that.  First up to finish this week is the quilt top for the Forest QAL, final linkup is Saturday guess I better get moving.

Thanks for stopping by.

Star Surround Update

Still plugging away at the quilt-a-longs that I am participating in should have some finished tops to show at the end of next week. Here is a peek at the center star for the Star Surround QAL.

I also whipped up a few little craft show items for my cousin who is trying to raise money for her Girl Scout Troops Silver Award Project.  I made a few lanyards and some hair ties.  I hope she is able to make a bit of money off her goodies that she is gathering.

This month my husband and I are celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary.  I wanted to go somewhere international but that just was not in the cards.  I am really itching for another international move (we have been in the same place for almost 3 years), but I am sure that won't be happening but a girl can dream.

It won't be a romantic get away really since we are bringing the boys with us but we are hoping for fun family time, with minimum whinging.   We have a lot planned to do and see but I am most excited about the Animals Inside Out exhibit at the Science and Industry Museum.  We saw the Human exhibit, years ago, minus the kids, in Detroit and it was amazing.  This is our last big trip before school starts in just a few weeks.

I hope to have a few quilt tops to show off when we get back, so I can get started on a few more that I have been waiting to do.

Thanks for stopping by.

Have a great day.

Skill Builder BOM - July Free Motion Quilting (FMQ)

Hello All. I managed to squeeze in some FMQ on my Skill Builder blocks for July. I am really happy with how all of them are coming together.

Here is a picture of all the completed blocks so far.

This is going to be an awesome quilt when it is finished.

Thank you for stopping by.

Coming Along

Some great progress happening on my quilt-a-long projects.  It does help that one kiddo is at his grandparents house and one is at day camp.

I completed my flying geese for the Star Surround.  I love the Aqua!

I pieced another 10 blocks for my Prism Quilt. This has to be one of the fastest quilts to put together.  I printed off another 20 blocks but I am sure I will have to do some more as I am loving it so much.

The Impromptu Quilt I have put the boarders on all the 10" blocks and hope to have the 9 patch blocks completed by the end of the week.

I put the first border on my Forest blocks and have the blue boarder cut and waiting to attach.  I really think this quit will look great once it is all together.

Thank you for stopping by.

Productive Times

Well the last few days I have been very productive in the sewing room.   I am currently in 3 Quilt-A-Longs (QAL) not to mention 4 that are wrapping up or will be by the end of the year.   I took the last couple days and got fabric and myself organized cut so when I can I will be able to pop into my sewing room and sew.

I joined the Star Surround QAL over at Happy Quilting with Melissa.  I am going to make two 24" stars that I am going to quilt up for my side tables in the living room.  I am using Aqua, Orange, Dark Blue and Grey. I am a few weeks behind so I needed to play catch up.

Flower Fields by Joel Dewberry, Painter Canvas #CJ4816, Noteworthy Sing Out Loud Grey for Moda, Riley Blake Aqua, Backyard Baby Snake Skin Grey Michael Miller and Sprout in Tangerine Madorna Road Michael Miller
I got my pieces all cut out and finished with this week's assignment of doing up the Half Square Triangles.

Next up I have cut out all the pieces for my Impromptu Quilt Along happening over on Flickr with Katy at Monkey Do.  Now I need to get these pieced, I see from browsing the Flickr page some very wonderful finished quilt tops.  Now that it is cut it should go quick I hope.

The final QAL is for the Prism Quilt designed by Faith at Fresh Lemons and hosted by Amy at 13 Spools.  I am really behind on this one but final link ups are open till September 13 so I have plenty of time.  I have changed my mind on my fabric selections a couple time and then decided to go heavy on a mix of blues.

Here is the fabric I will be using:

This pattern is paper pieced and is very simple so I expect it to go together very nicely, most time consuming thing will be taking the paper off.  I cut a bunch of strips up and got started making six blocks to make sure the fabric selection worked out.

I am already in love with it.

Do you remember the paper piece Forest QAL blocks that I have been doing for the few months well that QAL is wrapping up and I have till the end of August to link up my finished quilt top.  I put the boarders on my first block last night and cut out all the rest of the boarders so I will be sure to have it done in time.

Here is a sneak peek at what the blocks are going to look like.  I was originally going to try to do a quilt that sort of looked like a vintage travel poster but I just could not get it to work out so decided on something a little more simple to let the blocks stand out more.  Which I am sure will be the best since the blocks took so much work to put them together.

Thank you for stopping by.

Month in Review and Small Blog Meet

Well another month is over and I thought it would be good to put together a little mosaic of what I created in July.  It helps me feel like I have completed something even though most of the time it is just blocks for a ongoing project.

I am linking up with Lily's Quilts Small Blog Meet so thank you if you are new to my blog.  I try to post a few times a week if not more, just depends on what is happening.  It is summer here in Michigan and the kids are out of school so I don't get as much time for sewing as I do during the school year.

I appreciate you stopping by and checking my blog out.

Have a great day.
