Star Light Star Bright A Finished Quilt

I finished up my Star Light Star Bright quilt this weekend.  This quilt is my March goal for A Lovely Year of Finishes and I finished just in time to link up once again.  This one was a big one to quilt and finished up at 93" x 93".  I made four 24" blocks and one 48" for this quilt.  I quilted a secondary star in the navy space.  It is not perfect as I marked it out as I went along.  I think in future I might find some way to mark the quilt before I load it on the frame so it will be easier to get it uniform.

You can't tell from the picture above but there are random light blue squares and rectangles stitched throughout the navy.  You can see it better in this picture below that I took inside before the binding was on.

Close up of the quilting. I did over lapping squares in the navy area. I did some ruler work with this quilt but mostly free motion.

I used Hobbs Heirloom Premium 80/20 batting for this quilt, first time using this batting.  I have not washed this one yet so not sure how it will look once it is all washed and run through the dryer.

I used Glide Thread from Fil-Tec for this quilt in Rock Navy, Blossom, Hot Pink, Aquamarine, Lt. Turquoise and Pink Lemonade.

Another Goal Completed

This is my third goal for the First Quarter Finish Along.   I pieced this quilt back in 2012 using a pattern by Valori Wells called Annie.

This was really hard to decided what to quilt as the large print fabric almost makes any quilting just disappear.  I decided to do a sort of zig zag quilting in the black bars on the sides and up the middle of the quilt.  For the large print areas I loosely quilted the details from the fabric.  On the back it looks like I sketched flowers all over.

Close up of front:

For the back I pieced together using leftover fabric from the front.

Close up of the back:

The fabric selection for this one was a big step for me on stepping outside my comfort zone but I think it has come together nicely.  Even if the husband is still not sure about it, since he is not really a purple fan. Oh well can't please them all.

This one finished up at 72" x 97".

Pantone Challenge Quilt Entry

Well I did it, I completed my challenge quilt entry and marked off one of my projects for The Library Project.  YES!  This is my version of the Tipsy City Quilt in Quilting Modern By Jacquie Gerig & Katie Pedersen.   My quilt finished 34" x 37".

Here are some close ups of the quilting.

Not as much curves as the one by Jacquie and Kaite but I am very happy with how it turned out and so glad that I did not just do straight line quilting.  I struggled at times coming up with what do quilt and I am sure it is just nerves from being new to long arm quilting and not wanting to ruin a quilt.

Well now to load my Star Light Star Bright quilt on the frame so I can get that quilted before the end of the month.

Thank you for stopping by and visiting.

The Library Project QAL: March Report

16 March 2014

Progress but no finishes

This week is left me feeling very blah.  Between the coldness and then a could really nice warm days, I truly think I am so over winter.  I have not completed anything this week but have a lot of projects at various stages.

I finished the quilting on my Annie quilt the other day, just need to finish hand sewing the binding to the back.

I loaded my Pantone Challenge Quilt/The Library Project Goal, on the frame and got started quilting.  I have till the 21st to finish this one in order to be able to link up with the challenge.  I have no real plan for the quilting of this one.  I was just going to just do straight line quilting but then I decided to mix it up.   Should of just stuck with the straight line would of been done with it already.

I am testing another pattern for Aria Lane so I have been doing a lot of cutting.  Can't wait to be able to show this off.

I finished three of five blocks for my Star Light Star Bright Quilt.  The other two are close just some points were off to much for me so I had to rip them apart and start over.  Hoping to have this on the frame by end of next week so I can finish it before the end of the month since it is my goal for March at Lovely Year of Finishes

I am going to use this Snuggle Flannel for the backing. I picked up at Joann's a couple weeks ago for $3 a yard instead of $8, super savings.  I think it goes perfectly with the top.

I cut out all my pieces for this months Ruby Red Dot blocks.  Now just have to finish starching the sides under.

I also received some giveaway winnings this week, love free fabric!  I won a gift certificate from Sew Mama Sew for use at Miss Matatabi in Japan.  So cool!  I picked up meter cuts of these lovelies.

Then I won Mad About Patchwork Flickr Friday giveaway and selected two fat quarters.  I love the mice riding a bike, too cute!.

Stop back next week I hope to have a few of these things finished up so I can show.

Thank you for stopping by and visiting.

March Lucky Star Block

Finally some paper piece action going on,  I have so missed it.  I really do love paper piecing blocks.  Yes it can be frustrating at times but I love the complexity of them and the preciseness of them.

For this months block I enlarged it to finish up around 24", yup another big one.  I really need to get a program to work on my own paper piece patterns.  I have so many things that I would love to make into a pattern.

Here are all the blocks together.

Sew to Share - Hopeful Threads Quarter 1 Project

Kristy over at Hopeful Threads has put together a great charity project this quarter.  The project was to make personal care bags for kids going into the foster care.

I made six tote that will be stuffed with goods so the kids have things so help them settle in to there new surroundings.

Along with the bags I have picked up a variety of clothing, personal hygiene and stationary items to send down with the bags.  I was not sure how to break things up so I figured Kristy would know best what to put in each bag. Thanks Kristy for organize such a great project.

Now to close up the box and get it on its way.

Have a happy sewing day.

A Lovely Year of Finishes - March Goal

Time for a new goal for A Lovely Year of Finishes (ALYOF) .  For this month I am going to use my Star Light Star Bright Quilt that I am currently working on in a quilt along as my goal.   So I will need to to finish piecing the top and quilt and bind.

Here is what I have so far, I made five blocks.  I have 1- 48" and 4 - 24" now to just work out how I am going to put it all together.

I am thinking something along the lines of this, filling in the space between the blocks with Kona Navy same as the background.

Let the fun begin.
