A Lovely Year of Finishes April - Complete

Finally got some sun to be able to take pictures of my finished April goal for ALYOF.

Here is my finished Arabesque Bag, I made it with Joel Dewberry fabric from my stash.  I am very happy with how it turned out.  I also sprayed this bag with fabric protector to see if I can keep it clean a bit longer then my other fabric bags.  This was a very easy pattern and I am already thinking I will make up a few more in different fabrics.  Bag measures roughly 10" x 14" x 4".

I also refinished a wallet that I picked up at Goodwill.  I used a wombat print on organic cotton by Saffron Craig.  I used Heat n Bond Iron on Vinyl to make it last longer.   Next time I might just try the spray fabric protector as it was difficult getting the hardware back over the top of the wallet.    I know it is not everyones cup of tea but I wanted something different.   I used Aleene's Fast Grab Tacky Glue to hold the sides down.  I tried using E6000 glue but it would not stick to the wallet's surface.  So far the tacky glue seems to be holding up well.

The Library Project April Check In

Another month is just about over, really I am not sure where the month has gone.  The kids are already counting down to the end of school and it seems like they just started.  Well there has not been a little action on my Library Projects this month.  I cut out the fabric for my Windows Sewing Machine Cover that I am doing from Fresh Quilting by Malka Dubrawsky.

I am using aqua, pale yellow and orange for the squares and the background is Kona Indigo but it is really hard to tell from the photo.

The pale yellow print with flowers is a vintage fabric from my husband's grandma.  When we cleaned out her house she had mostly polyester fabric for making clothes but there was a few vintage fabrics that I added to my stash.  Here is a bigger picture of the vintage fabric, there was not much of it only about 34" x 11".  There was no salvage on it so I don't know any details about it or what she made with it.   It is so sweet and simple. Love it!

Slow Progress

I am slowly progressing on a few projects but really seem to be moving at turtle speed.

I have not started my April goal for A Lovely Year of Finishes, Arabesque Bag, that is cut just need to sew together.  So easy but not sure why it is not done yet. I have my April Lucky Star blocks all cut out just waiting to be pieced.

I did however finally get started quilting on one of my Finish Along Qtr 2 goals, Winter Plus.  Once again I am quilting it to death so it is taking a bit of time.  If I can get myself to focus tomorrow I think I can get it all completed and maybe even get the binding on.

Hopefully by the end of the week I will have a few finishes to show.

Thank you for stopping by and visiting.

Abby

Art Quilt Paper Piece Progress

I got started on my Girl in the Wind Art Quilt,  I completed sections A - E.

Section A (first attempt)

Then I jumped right in and made section B - E.  Once that B-E section was complete I realized I really should follow instructions.  The B-E block is a big smaller then the A block and that would be because I did not follow instructions. sigh...

Instructions said to do the four sections individually then sew them together to make the finally block.  Guess it was not a suggestion.  So I had to redo the parts for sections A, but I was able to salvage the piece from the first block to redo the block.

Here is the first two assignments sewed together.

Now I am happy to say that both are the same size (well close as it is going to get).  Now on to week 3 assignment.

In other exciting news, I received my fabric for the Modern Quilt Guild Michael Miller Challenge.  The fabric is so pretty and fun and I am at a lost to what I should do with it.

I am also a bit intimidated as the last challenge had so many wonderful creations and I don't think I could even compete. Guess I won't know unless I give it a try so fingers crossed I can create something worthy of the challenge.

Thank you for stopping by and visiting.

Improv Round Robin The Beginning

I joined a Round Robin Group that was organized in Modern Quilting Facebook Group that I belong to.  This is the first time I  have joined anything like this.  I decided I wanted my quilt to stick to certain colors and am very anxious to see how everyone adds on to my starter piece.  I wanted a quilt with shades of black, grey and white, with pops of yellow.

I think my starter block measures roughly 13" x 17" and honestly I could of kept going.  I pulled my scrap bins of yellow and black out and dumped them on my table and pawed through them to find just the right fabric to use.

See this is what my table looked like this morning.  Huge disaster right?

Happy to report it is cleaned up now and with the added bonus of cleaning up two more of my over flowing scrap bins.  This little improv was so much fun to make and I realized I really need to do a bit more improv and very soon.

Now that my black/grey scrap bin is a bit tidier now I will be able to start preparing to do one of my projects from my Library Project  list.  I will be using them to make my version of Rapid City from Modern Patchwork by Elizabeth Hartman.

Thank you for stopping by and visiting.

April Globetrotting

Whipped up my San Juan Globetrotting block this week, it went together very quickly.

I am really loving how all the blocks look together.

I also cut out all the fabric to put together my paper piece April Lucky Star block.

Now just need to stitch them up.

Thank you for stopping by and visiting.

Modern Morocco

At the beginning of March I tested Aira Lane's newest pattern Modern Morocco designed by Tara Knight.  Curves are always the worst to sew so I think that is why I love testing patterns as they push me out of my comfort zone.  Eventually I hope my curves will come out perfect but I am not there yet.

I tested the wall hanging size and used part of my bundle of Oakshotts that I won last year.   I paired it with some Essex Linen dyed Black.

Aria Lane pattern always have a coordinating back for each quilt.

This one measures 36.5" x 36.5".  Not sure how I am going to quilt this one up yet so will just have to add it to the stack till I decide.   This pattern went together very nicely and the cures are not really that bad.  This pattern will work with prints to, here is my sample block that I made when I first got the pattern.

Finish Along - Quarter 2 Goals

Time for some more goal setting for the second quarter for the Finish Along.  For this quarter I think three items will do since Michigan should be warming up, fingers crossed, then I will have a heap of garden work to do.

First I want to do my Art Quilt QAL that I purchased from Janeen at Quilt Art Designs.  It is a three month quilt along.

BOM @ QADesignsI am already several weeks behind on this but I think I can catch up.  Here is the fabric I selected to use.  Still need to select the background fabric but we are not up to that area yet.  So hoping to at least get the top completed on this one.

I am going to quilt and bind my Craftsy Block of the Month 2012.

I also decided to quilt up my last unfinished quilt from 2012, my Christmas Plus Quilt and hopefully put the binding on.

So there are my goals for the next three months.  How about you?  Are you joining in on the Finish Along?

Thank you for stopping by and visiting.

Abby

March Red Ruby Dots Blocks 5 &6

Ok so I know it is not March any more but I here are my March blocks for the Red Ruby Dots quilt that I am doing through my LQS.  Honestly if I did not already do 4 blocks I think I would change my method right now,  it just takes so long to turn all the pieces under. sigh...

Oh well I will push on and will look forward to the finished quilt.

Better get started on blocks seven and eight right away so I do not fall behind.

Thank you for stopping by and visiting.

Finish Along Quarter 1 - Final Goal Complete

For the first quarter I set myself four goals and I am happy to report I have completed them all.  The last project that I had on the list was to piece my Dancing Star quilt top.  Finished this one at the last minute.  Sorry for the bad picture but the sun is not out here in Michigan and this is the best of the 20 I took. Hopefully when I quit it I will be able to get a better picture.

My other goals that I completed over the last three months include:

Hemispheres

Frames

Annie

Now to go figure out what my goals will be for the next three months, so many things to choose from.

Thank you for stopping by and visiting.

A Lovely Year of Finishes April Goal

For this month I am totally going to go easy on myself.  Last month I got in such a rut and the never ending icky weather really did not help things.   I did manage to finish all my goals but I really do not like doing things at the last minute.   So for this month I am going to select the Arabesque Bag from Sew Sweetness that I cut out a month ago.

And to go along with that I am refinishing this brand new wallet (came from Target) that I picked up at Goodwill for $1.  It is really not my style but and very boring.  So I am going to use my cute wombat fabric and maybe a bit of grey fabric to refinish it.  I am thinking I will use some iron on vinyl so the fabric does not get dirty and wore out so fast.

See nice and easy this month.  That is not to say that I will not be doing anything.  I still have my Library Project goals, my second quarter Finish Along goals, my block of the month projects and a Improv Round Robin that I joined.  Yes, I do have trouble not joining in.  I also have paid for several long arm quilting classes on Craftsy that I just never seem to get to well hopefully that will change this month.

Thank you for stopping by and visiting.

Cheers,
Abby
