Mug Rug Swap from Brisbane to Lakeland Florida

Wow I have been missing in action for a while. Sorry about that. Working full time is wiping me out.   I have done a few things like set my sewing room back up and now it is spread through out the house.

I have loaded my second quilt on my frame but have not finished it yet.  Hopefully soon.

This morning I realised I had forgot to share my mug rug that I made for a swap between Lakeland Florida Modern Quilt Guild and Brisbane Modern Quilt Guild.  This was very challenging since when I signed up I did not have my sewing machine but it gave me plenty of time to plan and this is what I came up with.

I started by making mini black and white log cabins with Waratah flowers in the centre and a few blocks just with strips going different ways.  Then I found a picture of a Rainbow Lorikeet online and printed it off and used it to make appliqué pieces to construct the bird out of fabric. I machine stitched the bird pieces down and used some decorative stitches on my machine to quilt the background. I love how it turned out and it was hard to hand it over I will not lie.   So now I think I will have to make one for me but on a much larger scale for hanging on the wall.  I hope the person who got my mug rug loves it.

I received my swap mug rug from Florida at our last guild meeting in April.  It was made by Robin M. Thank you Robin for such a cute rug.

In the last month I also managed to whip up a block for a new friend Kelly who is putting together charity quilts. More information is on her blog Sew It, Quilt It, Comfort Communities.  Can't wait to see the quilt all put together and quilted.

Now to try and get some pictures of my first quilt since moving that I have quilted.  I keep forgetting to take photos of it during the day.  Hopefully will have that to share in the next week if I can get myself organized.

Thank you so much for stopping by and visiting.

Cheers from sunny Brisbane.

Abby

  1. Don't you hate how a job gets in the way of the things that we would rather be spending our day on? Hope all is well!

  2. Good one Abby your mug rug is perfectly Australian or maybe Queenslander-ish. The Rainbow Lorikeets are quite vocal at times and very pretty when they are about. Thanks for the Community Block much appreciated.
