On a roll with Mini Quilts

I have been really pushing up my quilting skills and I find making mini quilts is a great way to practice different designs. These minis where some little gifts for some ladies in my monthly sewing group so I have had to keep these under wrap till I gifted them.

First up is a block from The Modern Appliqué Workbook by Jenifer Dick.  I used a raw edge appliqué technique and used Pellon Wonder Under to help hold the fabric to the block.  This is all ruler work and free motion quilting.  I really love how it turned out. How cute is spotty binding. love. Finished size - 18 1/2" x 23 1/2"

My second mini for January is a pattern from Alison Glass book called Applique.  This is another raw edge appliqué   My friend that I made this for loves teal. For the quilting I did all free motion quilting just echoing the shapes. I used the project in the book as a guide as I wanted to see if I could tame my quilting a bit.  But now that I gifted it I want to take it back and add more quilting it feels so unfinished to me.  I really feel like it needs some straight lines in the background, might just need to revisit this design again. Finished size - 18 1/2 x 20"

Thank you for stopping by and visiting.

  1. I agree - the second mini could benefit from a little more quilting. The first one is beautiful!
